Risk everything (a found poem)

I am a country run with secrets
From meetings held behind closed doors
In the language I no longer understand
By rulers whose names I don’t remember
Dare I betray this institution
And risk everything I know as my life?

This is a poem constructed from some of the words and ideas in this insightful piece on Bradley Manning and secrets — I highly recommend you read it if you want to get the context for the verdict.

    1. M, I am sure it’s both — yes, there was support, and it probably was not as idyllic as we imagine it to be. There was a great article in The Nation recently about how higher education in the US became industrialized and corporatized, not allowing for simple pursuit of knowledge for its own sake. True for everything, it seems. Thanks so much for stopping in.
